The RhinoCam is a camera system that, for thefirst time in the digital age, puts the power of a full-size 645medium format back into the hands of virtually any photographer.Utilizing the Sony NEX camera sensor, RhinoCam enablesphotographers at any level to capture the dramatic detail andsharpness only available with a sensor three times larger than evena high-end full-frame 35mm sensor. The first release fromFotodiox's new Vizelex line of premium high-end camera systems andadapters, the RhinoCam delivers stunning 140+ megapixel imageswhile offering photographers their choice of low-cost sensoroptions and classic lenses.
Capable of creating the dramatic panoramic andfull 645 medium format images previously reserved for photographersworking with expensive medium format back cameras, RhinoCam isideal for landscape, commercial and architectural photographersseeking remarkably high resolution at a fraction of the cost. Viaan interchangeable lens mount, RhinoCam couples either a Pentax645, Mamiya 645, or Hasselblad V medium format lens with a Sony NEXseries camera. The built-in Composition Screen enablesphotographers to preview the composed shot. The lens remains firmlyin place while the RhinoCam's moving platform positions the NEXsensor for multiple precisely-positioned exposures. RhinoCam alsomounts directly onto a 4x5 Graflock board to open up additionalpossibilities with wider range of lenses, tilt shifts, bellowssystems and more.
"RhinoCam offers a cost-effectivealternative to full size medium format back options which cost 20to 30 times more than the Sony NEX," said Drew Strickland, vicepresident of marketing for Fotodiox. "This innovative system makesit possible for photographers to achieve the high qualityresolution, detail and sharpness found in images taken with mediumformat cameras, but for under $1,000."
After the capture process, it takes seconds tomerge the multiple exposures into one larger images using automatedstitching functionality built into recent versions of Adobe®Photoshop® and other software offerings. RhinoCam images arefinalized using the more accurate flat stitching method, avoidingthe perspective errors and curvilinear distortion present in imagesjoined via spherical stitching often found with motorized systemsthat move both camera body and lens. The result is a panorama or645 medium format photograph that is well over four times thenormal resolution of a high-end full-frame 35mm camera sensor. Thefinished result using a Sony NEX-7 is a 140+ megapixel image withincredible detail and sharpness.
